The Players Club of Swarthmore are holding auditions for the Children’s Theater production of Yo! Vikings on Sunday, March 26th and Monday, March 27th from 7:00- 10:00 PM by appointment.

Performance dates: June 24-25, 30, Jul 1-2
Where: Auditions, callbacks, rehearsals, and performances will be held at the Players Club of Swarthmore (614 Fairview Rd, Swarthmore, PA 19081).
 
The Children’s Series casts adults to perform for children. We will only be considering people 16 or older for this show.

We will contact you with a time slot prior to audition night. If you are not able to attend in-person, you may make video submission arrangements with the director.
 
Auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be held in-person at the Players Club of Swarthmore (614 Fairview Rd, Swarthmore, PA 19081). Plenty of off-street parking and accessible by Septa Regional Rail and Bus. Rehearsals are three evenings a week, beginning April 11 with a full week of technical/dress rehearsals. Some of our rehearsal and performance spaces are only accessible by stairs. Please let us know if you need accommodations.
 
All roles are non-equity and unpaid. The Players Club of Swarthmore is a Community Theater and actors are asked to participate in production activities.
 
COVID SAFETY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: All performers and staff must provide proof of up-to-date vaccination against COVID-19 to participate in a production.
 
If cast, you will be asked to sign a form acknowledging potential COVID risks and agreeing to comply with PCS’s most up-to-date health and safety guidelines through the
length of the production. You will also be asked to obtain a free criminal background check and child abuse clearance to participate in the production.
 
The Players Club of Swarthmore and the Yo! Vikings production Team are committed to diversity and inclusion. As such, we encourage performers of all races and ethnicities, gender identities, sexualities, and abilities to audition.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Adapted from Judith Byron Schachner’s acclaimed book of the same name, Yo, Vikings! is the mini-saga of 10-year-old Emma Katz, the fiercest Viking in Swarthmore, PA, and her quest for real adventure. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Please prepare 16-32 bars of a contemporary or Broadway song in the style of the show. Songs from “YO! VIKINGS” are allowed. Please choose a song that will showcase your acting abilities as well as your vocal abilities. Please bring sheet music; a piano accompanist will be provided. There will be no dance call during the initial
auditions.
 
CONFLICTS
Please refrain from auditioning if you have any conflicts with tech week (June 18 – June 22) and/or show dates (listed above).
 
CASTING BREAKDOWN
All roles are open. We will only be considering actors 16 or older at the time of auditions. We acknowledge that many roles we list fall on gender binary, but invite
transgender and non-binary performers to audition for the roles they most identify with. We are seeking energetic, dynamic performers to fill the following roles –
 

EMMA KATZ An enthusiastic fifth grader who gets lost in her imagination

 

MOM (JUDY KATZ) Emma and Ollie’s mother. Dad is often away for work, so she has a lot on her plate. She worries about Emma. Also plays: MJÖLVERK – a frost giant

 

SIGURD TORVALDSSON Librarian for the Swarthmore Public Library. He has an infectious passion for books, learning, and history.

 

OLLIE KATZ Emma’s brother, a kindergartener. Close with Emma and often the voice of reason when Emma starts acting impulsively. Has a bit of a speech impediment where he struggles with L’s and R’s. Can be played by someone female-identifying.

 

MRS. MUKHERJEE Emma’s teacher. She’s a by-the-book stickler and doesn’t care for Emma’s shenanigans.

 

BOTHVAR, THE FORK-SPLITTER Fearsome ringleader of the Vikings in Emma’s imagination. Also plays: MOVING MAN – a moving man.

 

NIKKI TIBBLES Emma’s classmate. She does not care for Emma and has a bit of a “Mean Girl” energy. Also plays: GUNHILD, THE SHE-BEAR – A Viking.

 

ZINZI FERDINAND-MUÑOZ Emma’s classmate. Good friends with Nikki and sister to Sebby. Also plays: HELGA, THE GLANG-FIST – a Viking.

 

SEBBY FERDINAND-MUÑOZ Emma’s classmate and Zinzi’s brother. Also plays: OLAF, THE BOORISH – a Viking.

 

MURPHY BEAN Emma’s classmate. Excitable and often confused. Also plays THORKLE, THE TRAVELER – a Viking.

 

PASHA Emma’s classmate, also plays a Viking.

 

PHYLLIS Emma’s classmate, also plays a Viking.

 

GUNTHER Emma’s classmate, also plays a Viking.

 

SIMON Emma’s classmate, also plays a Viking.

 

The Players Club of Swarthmore is an all-volunteer organization. All roles are unpaid and Non-Equity.
