Auditions: Junie B. Jones the Musical

The Players Club of Swarthmore is seeking energetic performers age 16+ to audition for their October production of Junie B. Jones the Musical.
 

When: Auditions will take place Monday, August 19th, 2019. We do not anticipate having callbacks.

Sign in begins at 6:30pm; Auditions will begin at 7pm.

You may be asked to stay and read sides from the show.


Where: Players Club of Swarthmore (614 Fairview Rd, Swarthmore, PA 19081).
 
Who: Open call. All roles are open and unpaid. PLEASE NOTE: Casting is for ages 16+
 
What To Prepare: Please prepare approx. 32 bars of an upbeat song in the style of a children’s show, or a show where adults play children. We want to hear your singing voice, but also want to see your ability to play a character! We will not have an accompanist. Please have a track ready (we will provide bluetooth speaker).
 
Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin August 26th and will generally run 3 to 4 days a week on Mon-Thurs nights and Sunday afternoons. Please note: Some rehearsals may take place in the Wissahickon section of Philadelphia.
 
Tech Week: September 29th – October 2nd
 
Show Dates: Saturday, 10/5 at 5pm; Sunday 10/6 at 11am and 3pm. Saturday, 10/12 at 5pm; Sunday 10/13 at 11am and 3pm.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
Most characters are double or triple cast. Details below outline anticipated casting, but could change based on audition turnout. This will be a very gender-fluid show; any and all interpretations of characters will be considered. Any and all race/ethnicities are encouraged to audition.
 

Junie B. Jones – A quirky, energetic first grader with comedic flair. Loves having adventures and writing about them in her journal. Gets upset when things don’t go her way. Wildly precocious, yet completely endearing. Vocal range top: E5; Vocal range bottom: G#3
 
Lucille (triple cast with Mother and Bobbi Jean Piper) – Junie B.’s former best friend, also in first grade. The ultimate child diva. Rich girl, well-dressed. Vocal range top: E5; Vocal range bottom: F3
 
Bobbi Jean Piper (triple cast with Lucille, Mother) – Grace’s new best friend.
 
Herb (double cast with Chenille) – Junie B.’s new best friend. A cute boy, slightly shy. Endearing and charming. Vocal range top: G4; Vocal range bottom: A2.
 
Camille & Chenille (double cast with Jose and Herb, respectively) – Lucille’s new twin best friends. Coordinated and cute.
 
Mr. Scary (triple cast with Gladys Gutzman and Daddy) – Junie B.’s first grade teacher, a warm man, despite his name. Vocal range top: D#4; Vocal range bottom: A#2.
 
Gladys Gutzman – The kids’ favorite lunch lady at Junie B.’s elementary school, also known as “Gladys Gutzman, Queen of Snacks.
 
May (double cast with Grace) – Another first grader in Mr. Scary’s class with Junie B. Bossy, know-it-all. Junie’s nemesis. Vocal range top: C5; Vocal range bottom: A#3.
 
Grace (double cast with May) – Junie B.’s other former best friend. She rides the bus with Junie B. and is now best friends with Bobbi Jean Piper.
 
Sheldon – Another first grader in Mr. Scary’s class with Junie B. Nerdy, lactose intolerant, and gets a bit of stage fright. Excited about playing music. Vocal range top: E4; Vocal range bottom: B2.
