PCS Theater is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of Be More Chill, running March 13–21, 2026. With music and lyrics by Joe Iconis and a book by Joe Tracz, this cult-favorite musical is based on the novel by Ned Vizzini and is presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
Jeremy Heere is just an average teenager. That is, until he discovers “The Squip,” a tiny supercomputer that promises to bring him everything he desires most: a date with Christine, an invite to the raddest party of the year, and a chance to survive life in his suburban New Jersey high school. But is becoming the most popular guy in school worth the risk?
A hit on Broadway and in the West End, Be More Chill has resonated with audiences for its high-energy score, sharp humor, and heartfelt exploration of identity, belonging, and the pressures of teenage life. (Please note: references to self-harm; some adult themes and language. Recommended for high school age and up.)
Director Sean McDermott reflects on his journey with the show:
“I first listened to Be More Chill around 2017… Quickly, it went from a show I’d never be into, into a show I’d kind of be into. From there, it made its way onto the shortlist of shows I wanted to direct. I listened to the voices in my head saying (thankfully not a SQUIP), it’s time to make this show happen. And here we are.”
He continues:
“What stands out to me most… is something many of us probably felt back then, and may still feel, at least a little, even now: that longing to belong. Where do we fit in? How do we do more than survive? … This show isn’t just about some nerdy kid, it’s a little bit about all of us. That desire to belong. To be someone… After seeing this show, I hope you understand that you’re not alone… here, in this space, you belong.”
The production is choreographed by Sarah Reynolds and Karen Davis Dixon, with music direction by Nathan M. Kendrick.
