Synopsis:
Three witches greet Macbeth,
Thane of Glamis, in a wood: All hail
Macbeth, Thane of Glamis! All hail Macbeth,
Thane of Cawdor! All hail Macbeth, that
shall be king hereafter! So begins
Shakespeares most compelling drama, and
the plot unfolds with a speed to match any Hollywood
thriller. A messenger arrives to announce
that the Thane of Cawdor is disgraced, and Macbeth
has been given his title; so the witches
first prophesy is fulfilled. Macbeth broods,
Stars hide your fires; Let not light see
my black and deep desires, for he understands
that he might indeed become king by murdering
the present king and eliminating his two sons.
Soon the deed is done, and Macbeth, to get and
keep power, plunges headlong into an awful cycle
of murder, remorse, insecurity, and further murder;
and yet Macbeth seems to grow in moral stature
even as his deeds become more desperate.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are two of the great
character studies in world literature, and they
walk our stage this month. Dont miss
it!
