What is a Relaxed Performance

October 31st, 2023

During our “prolonged intermission,” PCS has been working to make theater more accessible to all audiences. We are thrilled to be the first community theater to partner with the organization Art-Reach who has helped us offer more diverse programming. PCS has also joined the ACCESS Program which allows us to offer reduced ticket prices to cardholders. To reach these wider audiences PCS has initiated “Relaxed Performances.” PCS “Relaxed Performances” is theater designed to meet the needs of neurodiverse audiences.

Before each Relaxed Performance, a “Know Before You Go Guide” will be created for every show to help prepare audience members for show elements that they will experience in the production. During a Relaxed Performance, audiences will experience a show in a “comfortable, no shhh zone” atmosphere. PCS will have additional staff on hand for each performance, as well as a variety of accommodations for audience members, such as quiet zones and noise-canceling headphones. In addition, Guests will be allowed to enter and exit the auditorium as needed to meet their needs. As a bonus, Relaxed Performances are also a great way to introduce young children to the wonders of theater.

Be on the lookout for future offerings of Relaxed Performances this season and if you are interested in learning more about Relaxed Performances or would like to join our list of trained volunteers in this area, please reach out to caitlin.naylor@gmail.com.
